Jaguar introduce latest performance-focused engine

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol unit benefits from the latest of Jaguar Land Rover's engine technology, including twin-scroll turbochargers with new ceramic ball bearings that reduce friction and a high-flow compressor wheel to deliver enhanced performance.

In February this year, Jaguar Australia confirmed that 147kW/320Nm (XE and XF only) and 184kW/365Nm versions of the 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo-petrol four - dubbed 20t and 25t respectively - will be introduced into all three models as part of their 2018 model year updates.

While an F-Pace crossover powered by the new four-pot can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.0 seconds flat, an identically powered XF can do it in 5.6 and the smaller XE in 5.5 seconds.

In the Jaguar XF business saloon, the new engine delivers 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds.

They stressed how much India had helped build their businesses, and the extent to which their companies had contributed to India. Apple , working with contract manufacturer Winstron, began assembling the iPhone SE in Bengaluru last month .

That's enough in the F-Pace to get to 62mph in a decent 6.0 seconds and return official economy of 37mpg (although around 30mpg in the real world is about right).

Now while some may not be too pleased at the prospect of new fast Jaguar saloons without six- or eight-cylinder engines, these XEs and XFs do arrive at an interesting time. "This clean and more efficient engine perfectly complements the advanced lightweight aluminium body structure of our models", said product engineering chief Nick Rogers. It will be an option on the 2018 Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace.

The engine's impact is felt most in the XE - the lightest and smallest vehicle of the trio. This includes a gesture boot lid for both the sedans, while they now also come with the firm's Configurable Dynamics Technology that allows the driver to fiddle with the gearbox, throttle and steering settings to suit their driving style.

Models with the new engine will carry the 30t badge and will produce 295 lb-ft of torque.
