Samsung to build a United States factory

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has agreed to open a $380 million home appliance manufacturing plant in the United States, in SC, it said on Wednesday.

Samsung's planned home appliance manufacturing facility in Newberry County, South Carolina, will create 954 local jobs by 2020.

The chamber said that the business delegation also plans to spend 22-point-four billion dollars over the course of five years in purchasing liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and aircraft from the U.S.

The facility will start making home appliances later this year, and will eventually become Samsung's manufacturing hub in the United States, the company said.

While many global companies and business owners have promoted their plans to add jobs in the United States in recent months, a confluence of economic trends has been pushing them to invest in plants in America for years. Samsung Electronics CEO B.K. Yoon signed the company's plans Wednesday morning in Washington with Gov. Henry McMaster.

Samsung said it chose Newberry County for its plant for its highly skilled workforce, strong supply chains and transportation infrastructure. The site also will conduct research and development for Samsung products.
