Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK-A) (NYSE:BRK-B), the conglomerate led by Warren Buffett, invested $377 million in net-lease real estate investment trust (REIT) Store Capital (NYSE:STOR).

Store shares traded down over 2% this morning. Its largest investments are in single-tenant properties such as chain restaurants, veterinary clinics and fitness centers.

"Berkshire Hathaway's investment solidly positions STORE for continued growth, while adding measurably to our already strong financial position", Store Capital CEO Christopher Volk said in a statement. He was referring to Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett. Two research analysts have rated the stock with a sell rating, two have issued a hold rating and one has assigned a buy rating to the company's stock.

We don't yet know Berkshire's exact reasons for the investment in Store Capital, or if the investment was initiated by Buffett himself or someone else. The FTSE NAREIT Equity REIT Index is up 2.2% this year, while the FTSE NAREIT index for retail REITs is down 15% year-to-date. They were prepared to take advantage of an attractive buying opportunity in the market and they did so.
