"Those who spread fake and panic messages will be brought to responsibility together with those who are behind the hacker attack", the company's spokesman Mikhail Leontyev told TASS news agency.

One of the firms Group-IB said had been hit in Russia, Damco, which is Maersk's logistics company. Rosneft has alleged that certain assets were removed from Bashneft, while Sistema has rejected these claims as groundless.

In a statement posted on its official Twitter account, Rosneft said its server was the target of a "powerful hacker", adding it was wary of a possible connection to a legal proceeding involving the company.

A Moscow-based cyber security firm, Group-IB, said it appeared to be a coordinated attack simultaneously targeting victims in Russian Federation and Ukraine.
