It was a big night for Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who took home the top acting honours for their roles in drugs-themed drama Udta Punjab at the 18th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards, which saw "Neerja" being named the best picture. The actor thanked his loving wife calling her his good luck charm. In the video, the duo can be seen playing with the IIFA trophy post the award function.

The actors were given away the prestigious IIFA Awards for their brilliant performance in "Udta Punjab". On the other hand, Alia Bhatt portrays the role of a migrant woman who dreams of playing national level hockey for the country but she gets trapped and exploited in drug lord's house.

The award for Best Music Direction went to Pritam while Varun Dhawan won the award for Best Actor In Comic Role.

Disha Patani and Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh won their first ever IIFA awards for their debut Hindi films M S Dhoni and Udta Punjab, respectively. IIFA 2017 NY, which was held recently, successfully lived up to the expectations and honoured the best of the Indian film fraternity. Speaking at the weekend press conference about the IIFA Awards in NY, the 24-year-old actress said that she has not been a part of the IIFA till today and now feels like everything happens for a reason.

Veterans Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher won best supporting actors, for "Neerja" and the Dhoni biopic respectively.

The best playback singer award was grabbed by Amit Mishra for Bulleya from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil".

"Raabta" actors Rajput and Sanon performed on retro tracks, while Dhawan paid tribute to his father David Dhawan by grooving to his chartbusters.
