Pistons acquire Bradley in trade with Celtics

They're getting one of the best on-ball defenders in the National Basketball Association in Avery Bradley.

The Pistons acquired Avery Bradley and a 2019 second-round pick from the Celtics for Marcus Morris on July 7, 2017.

The Celtics needed the salary-cap space to sign free-agent and All-Star forward Gordon Hayward.

Avery Bradley is pretty much a slightly better version of KCP anyway, so now Detroit can actually afford to lose him. He shot 40.7% from deep, albeit on only 54 attempts. And, as noted, advanced metrics haven't supported the notion that Bradley is an elite defender. He missed time with a myriad of injuries, including a hamstring, an achilles and a shoulder. The sophomore guard had double shoulder surgery over the offseason.

The Celtics thoroughly investigated the incident before making the trade.

Crowder could eventually be moved, though he's the most valuable trade asset on Boston's roster. Either way, whether you agree with it or not-Bradley is being traded and fans will have to see how it all plays out. Crawford could grab a role in Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Plus, he has plenty of room to grow offensively, which entices Boston to keep the former #6 pick long-term. Al Horford, who usually plays center, is only 6'10.

The Pistons just added the best pure shooter in the draft, Duke's Luke Kennard, and they might play him early.

Marcus is the twin brother of Washington Wizards forward Markieff.

Trump Seizes Moral High Ground in Charlie Gard Case
However, not only is the hospital ready to take Gard off life support-they're also blocking his parents efforts to take him home. The child's parents want the hospital to release their son, as they want to take him to the United States to be treated.

According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, that gives them $30.8 million in cap room - enough for Hayward's $29.7 million starting salary - while also leaving them the $4.3 million room mid-level exception.

The Celtics now have five such forwards, including Morris, Gordon Hayward, Jae Crowder, Jaylen Brown and rookie Jayson Tatum. Front offices field offers and decide whether to execute deals.

Bradley was likely moved because of his impending free agency in 2018. His next destination would be the Motor City with a Pistons team that is ripe with youth. Let's take a look at what doors have been opened with the Bradley deal. The Celtics got a nice piece here from a guy that they were likely losing for nothing.

Keeping all three backcourt players at their expected prices was going to be almost impossible, especially with Thomas likely to receive a massive payday. Bradley is in the final year of his contract. He famously fired his agent in 2016 because he was reportedly upset with his contract.

The Orlando Magic have come to a two-year, $12 million deal with Shelvin Mack, which includes a partial guarantee for the second season. Smart will likely command less than Bradley, and it is clear that Thomas is now Boston's man after back to back offseasons that saw them acquire Horford and Hayward to create another big three in Beantown. Morris has good mobility on the offensive end, and has a reliable three point stroke, shooting over 35% for his career.

Smart was mentioned in trade rumors Thursday, and ESPN reported that Boston reached out to the New York Knicks about a possible deal.

Meanwhile, big man Kelly Olynyk has agreed to sign with the Miami Heat.

I'm guessing most people argue the Pistons got the better of the Celtics, including Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. "He will be a great fit for our team", Boston general manager Danny Ainge said Friday.
