Two German tourists were stabbed to death and four other foreigners were wounded in an attack at a hotel in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada.

There was confusion about the nationalities of the four wounded victims as well.

"We do not have any certainty about it yet", a spokesperson for the ministry said.

The attacker's motive was still under investigation, the interior ministry said.

Security has been boosted in tourist resorts around the country, as the industry provides Egypt with much needed revenues.

The nationality of the two other victims, who were also taken to hospital, was not immediately known.
