Spicer quits as White House press secretary

NY financier Anthony Scaramucci has been formally named White House communications director and Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been promoted to press secretary in the Trump White House's latest shakeup. But Priebus who is reportedly not a Scaramucci fan, asked him to take his name out of the running after his ethics agreement took too long to complete.

"I'm a super optimistic guy", Scaramucci said.

So in the wake of Sean Spicer's resignation, some media observers instantly wondered (and joked on Twitter) about whether the network - which has been perhaps the most frequent recipient of the White House's "fake news" insults - would make a play to bring on the departing press secretary.

Trump's choice of Scaramucci was reportedly backed by his son-in-low and adviser Jared Kushner, daughter Ivanka and Wilbur Ross, the Commerce Secretary.

Sean Spicer has resigned from his post as White House press secretary. "Spicer huddled with his staff among bushes near television sets on the White House grounds, not 'in the bushes, ' as the story originally stated".

In a tweet, Spicer said he will continue to serve through August. Sources told NBC News and Axios that Spicer is expected to stay on in the administration.

That's according to two people with knowledge of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. But he had taken more of a background presence, with White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders taking over most of the White House press briefings.

Spicer resigned on Friday after hedge fund guru Anthony Scaramucci was named the new White House communications director. The revered financier's new role as the Communications Director comes with little experience in the realm.

Despite Trump being a fan of the highly rated briefings, Spicer hadn't conducted an on-camera briefing since June 20 and the administration has preferred off-camera versions over the last few weeks.

So who is Anthony Scaramucci? In that time, Spicer has had a hard role to fill, attempting to harmonize conflicting statements within Mr. Trump's administration, and often enough, the president's own conflicting statements.

Spicer has always been a fixture of the Washington political establishment, previously serving as the spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

However, Ms Sanders said that the new hire didn't signal other changes in the administration.

Priebus told The Associated Press that he and Scaramucci are "very good friends".
