Two of the assaults saw mopeds stolen, while another victim had "life-changing" injuries inflicted after being sprayed.

Two males on a scooter carried out five attacks in 90 minutes, throwing acid in victims' faces and allegedly stealing two bikes in Islington, Stoke Newington and Hackney.

The two suspects had stolen mopeds belonging to their victims and drove around the city and threw acid on strangers.

One victim was said to have suffered "life-changing" injuries during one of the attacks in east London.

Rudd said guidance to prosecutors would be reviewed so that acid and other corrosive substances could be classed as risky weapons, and authorities would be given the powers they need to ensure those who commit such crimes "feel the full force of the law". One of the attackers stole the victim's vehicle and the other made off on the moped they arrived on. Police were called to the scene of a robbery at the Hackney Road junction with Queensbridge Road at 10:25pm, and found a man suffering from injuries.

Clark said "I'm aware of rumors circulating that the victims were all food delivery riders set up in advance of the attacks".

Acid attacks are on the rise in London, according to a report released by the Metropolitan Police Service released in March. "He is now in custody at an east London police station".

The attacks first started at 10.25pm on Thursday when two male moped riders threw a corrosive substance into the face of a 32-year-old man and fled with his moped. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

A spokeswoman from British Prime Minister Theresa May's office said the government was working to stop the use of acid in attacks. Police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The Met said the incidents appeared to be linked. He was taken to a hospital and authorities are awaiting an update on his condition, according to police. The Met Police's figures show there were 261 acid attacks in 2015, rising to 458 a year ago.

Eight minutes after that, police received a third call after a man in his 20s had acid thrown in his face.

The two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Friday on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm, London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
