Whatsapp reaches 1 billion daily active users; Calculations

Just a year ago, we shared that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every month. WhatsApp's Status feature that is pretty much the same thing as Snapchat's Stories has 250million daily active users whereas Snapchat itself has only 166 million daily users of the entire app.

It may look like a normal WhatsApp message but fraudsters are using the app to gain access to users' personal details. The Facebook-owned company said about 55 billion messages and 4.5 billion photos are shared every day globally on its platform. On top of all this, another interesting stat which the company announced is that the service now supports 60 languages as well. Facebook shares at an all time-high after the company announced their results. According to the WhatsApp, it has successfully acquired 1 billion daily active users on its service.

Other than these changes, the in-app calling feature will also get a slightly modified layout.

WhatsApp has seen a rapid increase in Status users, with Facebook disclosing 175 million DAUs during its Q1 call back in May. WhatsApp has also added a slew of features to the app in the previous year of so, with the biggest being an update to Status.

For Snapchat, which has been trying to survive against the growing challenges from Facebook, these WhatsApp numbers won't come as good news.

Mark Zuckerberg also announced that 250 million use Whatsapp Status every day, which, to be honest, is a bit of a surprise.

Action Fraud said the text could trick long-term users of WhatsApp who may remember paying a 99p fee to use the service.
