Inside the museum, guests can check out exhbitions, including the newest, Chasing Eclipses, which prepares visitors for the total solar eclipse.

If you're unable to take a day off in the middle of the week and road trip to Carbondale, you can still catch the solar eclipse in Chicago. The planetarium staff from Youngstown State University will be there to inform people about the eclipse and help them view it safely.

Weather permitting, Las Vegas will experience a 72 percent partial eclipse, with the peak viewing at 10:32 a.m., planetarium manager Andrew Kerr said.

A total solar eclipse will occur over the United States on August 21, visible on a path from OR to SC, crossing over northeast Kansas.

There are plenty of places to view the eclipse when it occurs at approximately 1:19pm on August 21. Telescopes and free eclipse viewing glasses will be available, and the college's resident astronomer will be there to provide information.

Immediately before the eclipse viewing, RMSC will hold a Solar Eclipse Star Show at 12 p.m., during which attendees will learn about how eclipses happen. Those interested in purchasing glasses can stop by the shop at the planetarium between now and the day of the eclipse.
