Before starting his campaign, Yadav had said the Grand Alliance was forged for five years and trust of 11 crore people was broken by Kumar, according to a report by The Indian Express.

While the Bihar unit of JD (U) is seen backing Nitish, party sources say more than 12 state units have indicated support towards Yadav.

Hundreds of his supporters, including some JD-U leaders, welcomed Yadav as he came out of the airport, shouting slogans in his support.

Sharad Yadav will undertake a three-day tour of the state and interact with the people over the split in the alliance. "The party is now not concerned whether he is with us or not", Neeraj added. It is likely that Sharad may end up getting expelled from JD (U).

Yadav's show of defiance has triggered speculation that the party may take action against him, but a spokesperson rejected the suggestion.
