Elliott's suspension is upheld, but there's now the running back's restraining order which was filed against the league that still has to be decided on.

Elliott, the NFL's 2016 rushing leader as a rookie, was suspended after the league concluded he used physical force last summer in OH against Tiffany Thompson, his girlfriend at the time.

According to Ezekiel Elliott's attorneys, his six-game suspension over a domestic violence case has been upheld, but he will be allowed to play in the first game of the season because of the decision timing. However, it had also been reported that Elliott might be eligible to play in Week 1 if there was no decision reached by a certain time on Tuesday afternoon.

"We are extremely disappointed with Mr. Henderson's inability to navigate through league politics, and follow the evidence, and most importantly, his conscious [sic] ... the only just decision was to overturn the suspension in its entirety".

Elliott and the NFLPA filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) that would delay any suspension until the conclusion of the case.

In the end, Elliott's attorneys and the union argued that interviews with witnesses and Thompson herself - including those of lead investigator Roberts - should have raised serious doubts for the league regarding the claims against Elliott.

After an investigation that took over a year, the league informed Elliott that he will be suspended for six games and warned him about any further violations.

Elliott never specified what drugs he used while with the Buckeyes.

If Elliott were to accept his suspension outright, it would begin in Week 2 - but as expected, he is fighting the ruling. At this point, Elliott's suspension would start in week two when Dallas visits the Denver Broncos.

Based on the testimony we heard during Elliott's appeal hearing last week, his ex-girlfriend Tiffany apparently had an affair with Elliott's former teammate Lucky Whitehead. If the order were granted, Elliott will be allowed to continue playing while his federal case works its way through the legal system. The NFLPA also contested that the appeal process was "fundamentally unfair". Prosecutors in OH didn't pursue the case, citing conflicting evidence.

The motion filed Monday claims that a federal court lacks the jurisdiction to vacate a suspension imposed by the NFL. A six-game suspension is the league's standard for a first-time domestic violence offense. Judge will rule by 5 pm Friday on injunction. Friel was hired as a result of the changes, which came after National Football League was sharply criticized for its handling of a case involving former Baltimore running back Ray Rice.
