The storm is expected to reach Florida by the weekend; Governor Rick Scott told residents to prepare now for this "incredibly unsafe storm" as officials already begin to watch for storm surge and high winds.

The flight cancellations due to Hurricane Irma will likely increase as it churns close to Florida. It could initiate closures at a variety of amusement parks in Orlando.

USA disaster management teams are dealing with the after effects of Hurricane Harvey, which was a Category 4 storm when it made landfall late last month in the state of Texas and dropped historic amounts of rain as it stalled over the region.

The combination of Hurricane Irma approaching southeastern USA and the high pressure ridge will create an atmospheric "road block". The policy only applies to vacations booked directly through Disney, and it does not apply to dining or special events. But the storm could reach as much as 225 miles per hour, according to MIT meteorology Professor Kerry Emanuel. Florida declared a state of emergency Tuesday as residents braced for Hurricane Irma, an extremely unsafe Category 5 storm and the most powerful seen in the Atlantic Ocean in over a decade. The 26C water that hurricanes need goes about 250ft deep, said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the private forecasting service Weather Underground.

The latest estimates put Irma on a more direct path toward South Florida, raising the possibility that the United States could be hit by back-to-back major hurricanes. He also activated members of the Florida National Guard on Tuesday, and said all 7,000 members will report for duty on Friday. This storm is expected to remain in the southern Gulf, not impacting the U.S.

"After Hurricane Andrew came through, everything was gone", Garten said.

"The combination of a life-threatening storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline", the advisory said.
