La Liga president accuses PSG, Man City of 'financial doping'

Tebas called on UEFA to launch an investigation into "state funded clubs" like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City that are both owned by sovereign wealth funds from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates respectively. "The investigation comes after La Liga formally requested such probes into PSG and Manchester City FC in August".

"The LFP firmly condemns the insulting comments from LaLiga president Mr Javier Tebas concerning Paris St Germain", a statement read.

'As you would expect, Manchester City and the City Football Group are seeking appropriate legal counsel and will act accordingly on that advice'. These past few years Manchester City have paid out almost a thousand million on players, PSG £950m.

A City spokeswoman suggested legal action could be upcoming, saying, "We note the public comments made by Mr. Tebas today and earlier this week".

CFG added La Liga new boys Girona to a stable that also includes clubs in Australia, Japan, Uruguay and the US.

Uefa is looking into PSG's compliance with FFP but the governing body now has no plans to probe City.

But City were left furious over accusations made with regards to Pablo Maffeo, Aleix Garcia, Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno and Olarenwaju Kayode.

Speaking at SoccerEx, Tebas hit out at the behaviour of certain clubs when buying players from La Liga, and believes their accounts demonstrate what is at play.

Manchester City was the Premier League team that spent the most money in the past summer transfer window, spending 240 million euros on six players: Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva from Monaco, Kyle Walker from Tottenahm Hotspur, Ederson from Benfica, Danilo from Real Madrid, and Douglas Luiz from Vasco da Gama (loaned to Girona).

Tebas, who has revolutionised La Liga since taking over in 2013, engineering a collective TV football rights deal among other measures, said PSG were simply not paying market prices.

"These unworthy remarks are unbecoming of an institution as respectable and successfui as the Spanish La Liga", the LFP wrote. They are not financial doping.

"This is when the football clubs have a competitive advantage not coming from the club itself".
