We now have three separate hurricanes in the Atlantic basin - Jose and Katia, along with Irma, as Category 1 hurricanes.

Five days of rain are forecast for most of Mexico's territory due to the effects of storms in the region including Katia, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Jose, said Luis Felipe Puente, the head of Mexico's national emergency services.

Weather forecasters have said the hurricane has sustained maximum winds of up to 120 miles per hour.

Irma, which was the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded north of the Caribbean and east of the Gulf of Mexico, passed nearly directly over the island of Barbuda, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Roughly 10 of these smaller islands - such as St. Martin, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis - were pounded by hurricane conditions. But late Wednesday we should see the system exit, with clearing skies behind the remnants.

But that's hard to measure, Klotzbach said.

In Florida, people stocked up on drinking water and other supplies.

Irma is said to be making its way to the east coast in Florida and will reach there over the weekend.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez said the voluntary evacuations could begin as soon as Wednesday evening.

Dropsonde observations - readings from instruments dropped into the storm by the hurricane hunter aircraft - indicated that the pressure rose a few millibars this morning, but the most recent aircraft report shows that the pressure has fallen to 914 millibars.

Tropical Storm Katia also strengthened to Hurricane Katia on Wednesday afternoon.

Jose has winds of 75 miles per hour and is quickly strengthening.

Not to be forgotten, Hurricane Katia is drifting toward Mexico's gulf coast.

On the 5-level intensity scale, Category 2 tropical storms carry winds of 154-177 km/h (96-110 mph), strong enough to cause life-threatened damage.

One is a major hurricane, another is about to become one and the remaining one is a Category 1 hurricane that could strengthen.
