Underlining that his country was firmly for self-determination of Kashmiris, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday said the people of the region have "risen against the Indian occupied forces" and that the Indian government is using aggression along the Line of Control as a diversionary tactic.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said Pakistan has a fully secure, reliable and robust nuclear command and control system under a full civilian oversight.

"Prime Minister [Abbasi] shared Pakistan's concerns and views with regard to the USA strategy for South Asia", it said.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi addressed at an event organised by the Council on Foreign Relations in NY that "I think the basic issue is Kashmir".

During his ongoing U.S. trip to attend the United Nations General Assembly, PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi gave his first worldwide interview to CNN's Christiane Amanpour.

While addressing the gathering he also said that Pakistan and U.S. should further strengthen its relationship, despite all the differences between the two countries.

"It's a very secure environment in which our strategic weapons are controlled and held".

Abbasi said "Indian occupation forces there have committed atrocities" and urged the "world community to take notice of those atrocities".

Abbasi strongly contested U.S President Donald Trump's call for an enhanced Indian role in Afghanistan. "So, if they want to do economic assistance that's their prerogative, but we don't accept or see any role politically or militarily for India in Afghanistan", Abbasi said.

"Our contributions and sacrifices as an ally have not been acknowledged as they deserved to have been acknowledged", said the foreign minister and added that Pakistan's commitment towards the war on terror were "unmatched". According to the Pakistani leader, any intervention of India will only complicate the situation rather than resolving it.
