Bayern Munich hierarchy meeting to discuss Carlo Ancelotti's future after PSG defeat

Jurgen Klopp is among the contenders to be the next manager of Bayern Munich after Carlo Ancelotti quit the club following a disappointing start to the new season.

Despite winning the Bundesliga in his first season in charge at the Allianz Arena, neither the Bayern board nor the players have taken to the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager the same way they had done with Pep Guardiola.

Potential full-time candidates for the Bayern job include Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann, who handed Ancelotti a 2-0 defeat earlier this season, or current assistant manager Willy Sagnol, a former French global who played for the Munich club.

Ancelotti's assistant Willy Sagnol will take over on a temporary basis, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel likely to be at the head of the queue to replace the Italian full-time.

Barcelona mayor calls for European Union mediation in Catalonia
He told a news conference in Barcelona that he met with regional security officials in an effort to defuse tension surrounding the vote.

"It's a very painful defeat, a defeat we have to analyse and after which we'll have to talk about clearly and draw the consequences because what we saw was not Bayern Munich", Rummenigge was quoted by AFP subsidiary SID as saying at the post-match meal in a Paris hotel.

While Rummenigge did not say which consequences Bayern need to draw from the defeat, Ancelotti could face a stormy couple of days after benching star players like Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery or Mats Hummels. "I now expect the team to have a positive development and absolute performance, so we can reach our goals for this season". "I thought a lot about what the best team to play was".

When asked about his decision to make so many changes, Ancelotti told reporters: "I don't think my team selection was risky. I thought it was a good line-up for this game". I think it's important to turn things around after this loss, to present as Bayern Munich and to show we are a team, [the one] which performed well in Europe and in Germany past year.
