This year's sixth annual walk was held at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex.

People of all ages, dressed in their pink attire, gathered at the Brickyard to support breast cancer awareness, celebrate its survivors and raise funds for the American Cancer Society to combat the disease.

Communications director Brian Ortner said the turnout every year amazes him. She said she went through 20 weeks of chemotherapy and just had what they hope is her final surgery last Monday.

In 2009, Ms Ambrose discovered a close male friend was battling breast cancer.

Wilkerson said she is touched to see people in the community running in the 5K even if they've never been personally affected by breast cancer.
