Instead, the letter said, the member of parliament was apprised of the inconvenience being faced in maintaining law and order and providing him safety and security during the visit. "His credible sources are way ahead of us".

Speaking to PTI last week, Rajasthan Congress president Pilot had said that Gandhi might take over as the Congress president shortly after Diwali and stressed that time had come for the party vice president to lead from the front. He said while his request was not considered, the authorities would ensure "all-round security" for the Congress leader. The Gandhi confidant had also said the last names of leaders should not be treated as a disqualification in politics. He had said that Gandhi's elevation had been in the pipeline for long.
