Amazon Unveils Massive Holiday Discounts at Whole Foods

When it acquired Whole Foods in August, Amazon said that Prime members would eventually get "special savings and in-store benefits" at the grocery stores, and the company just announced the first one: It's for turkey! "We'll continue to work closely together to ensure we're consistently surprising and delighting our customers while moving toward our goal of reaching more people".

Bringing more discounts to Prime members is a sign that the Amazon is looking to bring higher value to Prime members and leverage its $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods Market.

Select organic and no antibiotic turkeys will be sold at reduced prices of $3.49 per lb. and $2.49 per lb., respectively.

Today, Amazon is offering a small, but powerful, example of what the savings for Prime members may look like as the discount program kicks off.

These slashed prices are an extension of Amazon's efforts to better market Whole Foods. Amazon unveiled a preview of its rewards program for the grocery chain, which will slash prices on all of the dinner-time necessities this season for AmazonPrime members.

Prime members who want to take advantage of this year's holiday discounts should go to Amazon's website and print out a coupon to present to the cashier at checkout.

Among the brands seeing cost reductions are Lunderg Family Farms organic rice, Eden Foods organic beans, Pacific Foods organic chicken and vegetable broth, Organic Valley eggs and milk, and Tom's of ME toothpaste.

However, even though Amazon has publicly touted the Whole Foods price cuts on selected items, independent researchers have found that prices on other items have increased. You can even reserve discounted turkeys ahead of time before heading to the store.
