The assembly wasn't only a tribute to two dozen guests and 15 veterans in attendance, but the hour also was a classroom to educate students the importance of Veterans Day.

"Here at Shelledy, our students are privileged to know what a veteran is".

Veterans Day is officially tomorrow, but that doesn't stop communities from celebrating and honoring America's Veterans, not even the children.

"We've got parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles". The students and staff work really hard on this every year.

Additionally, there will be a presentation of colors, performances by the high-school band and choir as well as a special performance by E.J. Blott Elementary School first-graders. "We like them to bring in pictures, artifacts, things they can share with the kids to give the kids a sense of what it's like to serve in our military".

At Staley High School, the celebrations are starting early. "They fought hard for us and now we can show our appreciation by honoring them here today". They were greeted by patriotic songs and poems.

"This serves as a reminder of the sacrifices these veterans have made to protect the freedoms and rights these students have, from going to school to the freedom of speech and all the others we enjoy", Pettyjohn said.
