Disney Confirms New "Star Wars" Trilogy With Rian Johnson

The storied movie studio and theme park operator is scrambling to keep viewers who are abandoning its current top money maker, cable networks.

The Walt Disney Co. has announced that Rian Johnson will create a new trilogy for the "Star Wars" universe, greatly expanding the director's command over George Lucas' ever-expanding space saga.

Fans still have to wait a month to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but Lucasfilm's latest actions more or less confirm the eighth episode in the Skywalker saga is something special.

The announcement was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger on its earnings conference call with analysts. StarWars.com also have the full report, confirming Johnson's involvement as writer and director of the trilogy, with Ram Bergman to produce.

The Vikings, who lead the NFC North at 6-2, made a decision to shut down Bradford for the rest of the 2017 regular season. All 22 will have more on Bridgewater soon. "He hasn't had training camp", Zimmer said.

It turns out, Disney and Lucasfilm already have an ambitious new plan in place for the future of world's most beloved sci-fi franchise.

The Last Jedi, which follows on from 2015's hit film The Force Awakens and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theatres in Singapore on Dec 14. "We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi", she said.

Disney said no release dates had been set for the new trilogy.

Previously having directed episodes of Breaking Bad and the Bruce Wills time-travel film, Looper, Johnson was chosen by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, because "He's a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career". The streaming service (or services) is now expected to launch sometime in 2019, but there is no word yet on when the TV series is expected to debut, let alone plot details.
