Dolphins trade Jay Ajayi to Eagles

The Eagles acquired Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, making a major splash on the day of the National Football League trade deadline.

Originally a fifth-round draft choice of the Dolphins in 2015 (149th overall), Ajayi has played in 31 games (19 starts) and has carried 447 times for 1,924 yards and 9 TDs. It was speculated that the Eagles would be aggressive as the trade deadline approaches, but no one expected them to trade for Ajayi.

In Ajayi's place, Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams will take over as Miami's top two running backs. Although his 2017 season was not going great - 465 yards on 138 carries - he still steps onto this Eagles roster and is without question their most talented running back.

If nothing else, the Eagles have depth at running back. There were rumors of a possible trade for Atlanta's Tevin Coleman or Indianoplis's Frank Gore, but the Eagles took an interest in Ajayi. LeGarrette Blount is the team's leading rusher with 467 yards. It was clear that the Dolphins did not see eye-to-eye with Ajayi, which made it easier for them to send him to Philly.

The response to the Eagles' trade was quick and showed that experts believe that Ajayi will be a huge addition in Philadelphia.
