Lions rally past winless Browns 38-24 at Ford Field

Cleveland and their fans have had little reason to celebrate this season, especially after All-Pro lineman Joe Thomas went down with a triceps injury, breaking his record for consecutive snaps played. After a 38-yard pass completion from quarterback DeShone Kizer to Sammie Coates, Zane Gonzalez booted a 23-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 11:30 to go in the opener.

Kizer, Jackson, and the Browns definitely have a lot of work to do.

Kizer missed two second-half possessions after suffering a rib injury on a third-quarter hit from cornerback Quandre Diggs.

Finding the formula: It took a while but the Browns finally found their running game - and they used it. Cleveland ran for 201 yards in the loss, 118 in the second half.

The game was tied 24-24 entering the fourth quarter.

The Cleveland Browns started strong, but the Detroit Lions finished better in their inter-conference matchup at Ford Field in Detroit Sunday afternoon.

The Browns scored the first two touchdowns of the second half, giving Cleveland a second-half lead. I thought we did some good things out there.

The Browns punted, but the defense held the Lions and the Browns got the ball back still only trailing by seven.

The Lions ran for 104 yards and a touchdown - shocking given the weakness of Detroit's ground game and the strength of Cleveland's run defense - and DeValve made a major mistake in the second quarter.

In what universe does that make sense?

Emmanuel Ogbah had four sacks, and Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert each added a sack. Still, it would have been nice for the Browns to find out more about what they had in Kizer before the season comes to a close.

The Lions then knotted the score at 10-all when Ameer Abdullah bulled up the middle from 9 yards out with 10:25 remaining until intermission. One had to wonder, could this be the beginnings of an ugly Browns game?

"Most of the time when I was in there, he was in there", said Garrett, who had one tackle.
