Okafor's option not being picked up by Sixers

After spending the past year attempting to trade him, the Philadelphia 76ers ultimately declined their team option on Jahlil Okafor for the 2018-19 National Basketball Association season.

Okafor had fallen out of the team's rotation this season, appearing in just one game against Toronto in which he played 22 minutes and finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.

And since he won't be on the court playing meaningful minutes in a 76ers jersey again, it's time this saga end in Philly and Okafor start the second phase of his career elsewhere, whether via trade or buyout.

"He said that he felt that if he bought me out, another team would be getting me for free", Okafor said. "Let him go play somewhere" because I'm 21.

"I was fine with that", Okafor said. The team looks great and I'm not a part fo that.

"Honestly, I did not want them to pick up my option", Okafor said at the team's shootaround Wednesday, via ESPN.

Stephen Ward: 'Blow if Burnley lose Sean Dyche'
It has also been claimed that the latest talk of Everton making an imminent move for Dyche has not emanated from Merseyside. He's obviously got ambition but we're happy he's here. "There's one person on our list and that's Sean Dyche ".

John Podesta: 'I'm the Victim' of Donald Trump's 'Big Lie'
Trump criticized the news media for largely ignoring the Podesta brothers' ties to the larger Russian Federation investigation. The Podesta Group and Mercury registered for this work under the Lobbying Disclosure Act, which applies to domestic lobbying.

IAEA's Amano, Iran's nuclear chief hold talks in Tehran
In a press conference with Salehi on Sunday, Amano again insisted that Tehran is living up to its commitments under the deal. He warned that "we can produce uranium enrichment at 20 percent within four days, but we do not want the JCPOA to collapse".

Okafor would provide a low-post offensive option - and younger alternative - for Boston, which has Aron Baynes, Al Horford and Daniel Theis at center. "I talked to [general manager] Bryan [Colangelo] about that yesterday just because I want to play".

Okafor says that he didn't believe he'd still be with the Sixers when the deadline for his option came up.

Okafor said he would like the 76ers to trade him or buy him out of his contract, reports NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jessica Camerato.

Other teams - that don't care about winning this season and will have cap room next summer - are generally better of waiting to sign him then. "But that's where we stand today because you waited so long to trade me".

"It could be a buyout, it could be a trade, I just want something to happen rather quickly", Okafor said.

Okafor was selected third overall in the 2015 draft, one pick ahead of Kristaps Porzingis, and joined a roster that already featured centers Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid. "At the end of this season, I'm an unrestricted free agent".
