Oscar Pistorius Prison Sentence Doubled For Killing Girlfriend

A South African court has more than doubled the sentence handed to former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Prosecutors argued that the initial sentence was "shockingly light" compared to the country's minimum 15-year-sentence for murder.

Pistorius has said that he thought an intruder had broken into his home and he shot Steenkamp by mistake. He was found guilty of culpable homicide in September 2014 and served 10 months before being released to house arrest. Pistorius has already served about a year and a half, meaning he has 13 years and five months remaining in prison.

On February 14, 2013 Pistorius was accused of murdering his girlfriend and model Reeva Steenkamp, 29, after her body was found in his toilet room.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel argued that Pistorius' sentence was "shockingly lenient", while the defense sought to dismiss the appeal. The court agreed and the sentence is now 13 years.

Justice Legoabe Willie Seriti said Pistorius has yet to offer a sufficient explanation for why he fired those four shots and has failed to show honest remorse.

Mesut Ozil reportedly agrees contract to join Barcelona in January
Look at who he would be assisting - Lionel Messi , Luis Suarez. they are not going to turn him down because they know his vision. It is hard to admit but the Catalan club are a much more appealing outfit than us and I reckon Ozil would snap their hands off.

Android Smartphones Stealthingly Sharing User Location Data with Google
Google's justification that location data improves "the speed and performance of message delivery" sounds ridiculous. Although the location data was encrypted, it could have opened an unexpected hole in an already vulnerable system.

Fired-up Joel Embiid powers 76ers over Jazz 107-86
They trailed by as many as 21 points and by the end of the night, Embiid was openly taunting the Jazz with almost every basket. McConnell and Richaun Holmes combined to score just 19 points in 58 combined minutes between the three of them.

Pistorius must serve at least half of the 13 years and five months - almost seven years - before he can be considered for parole.

"I find it hard on the evidence to accept that the respondent is genuine remorseful..." "To my mind, the attempt by the respondent to apologize to the deceased's family does not demonstrate any genuine remorse on his part". There is no death penalty in South Africa.

The Supreme Court said that Pistorius "displays a lack of remorse, and does not appreciate the gravity of his actions".

"His whole concern was about the deceased and her family".

"I did not expect the Supreme Court of Appeal to hand down such a lengthy sentence of imprisonment", legal analyst Ulrich Roux said on the eNCA news channel.
