Trump Says He Turned Down 'Person Of The Year.' Time Disagrees

"Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named 'Man (Person) of the Year, ' like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot", the president tweeted. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!' he wrote.

Time Magazine's hit back saying he's "incorrect" about how it chooses its recipient.

However, the publication turned down the President's claims, saying the award victor will only be declared on December 6.

Trump has had a long-running obsession with TIME - and the magazine's choice for man/person of the year - that predates his political career.

However, Time responded shortly afterwards, accusing the U.S. president of misrepresenting them.

Trump was Time magazine's person of the year last year.

Last summer, TIME asked for the fake magazines to be removed after reports surfaced that at least five of Trump's golf clubs featured the fakes bearing his photo. "You should run Time!".

Mr Trump's professed indifference to the award contrasts a little with previous years, where he has paid close attention to the judges' decision.

In December 2016, Time editors announced they had selected Trump as their "Person of the Year", beating out Hillary Clinton, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, singer Beyoncé, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and whistleblowers in Flint, Mich.

In 2012, 2014 and 2015, he even complained about not being picked - on Twitter, of course.
