World's first human head transplant successfully carried out

In a freaky 18-hour operation, a team lead by Dr Xiaoping Ren of Harbin Medical University in China allegedly carried out what is being termed as the world's first human head transplant on a corpse, reported The Telegraph.

The procedure was carried out by a team led by Dr Xiaoping Ren, who past year grafted head to the body of a monkey.

Italian Professor Canavero, who is the director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, announced the success in a press conference in Vienna. In a statement to The Telegraph, professor Sergio Canavero claimed that the electrical stimulation of the nerves highlighted that the operation on the corpse had been successful.

He says that "in the next few days" he will release a scientific paper detailing the procedure.

Canavero instantly became famous after claiming to be working on the first human head transplant, and indeed, Canavero named the first patient who is Russian man called Valery Spiridinov who will have his head frozen and then grafted onto a new donor body. It took 18 hours, which was the criteria already set by his team for the duration of the transplant.

Four People Dead, Gunman Killed in Tehama County, N. Calif.: Sheriff
At least 10 people were wounded or hurt in the string of shootings in Rancho Tehama , about 125 northwest of Sacramento . The Eureka Times-Standard, a regional newspaper, reported that ten people had been injured in the shootings.

Scientists have successfully performed a head transplant on a corpse, and are ready to do it on a living person, according to reports by media outlets.

"Canavero has not completed a successful human head transplant, and it is very unlikely that he will ever do so", the magazine wrote on Friday, in a story debunking Canaveros' claims.

There have, however, been other kinds of recent milestones in the transplant space, including one of the most extensive face transplants ever done and the prospect of human organ donations from genetically modified pigs. "Everyone said it was impossible, but the operation worked", he said.

In 1970, a head transplant was successfully performed on a monkey. That will be followed by a "formal head transplant" operation in China in December, according to Newsweek.

The medical community thinks the surgery is both "unethical" and "dangerous".
