New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson will not travel to New Orleans

Wilkerson will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, coach Todd Bowles announced Friday.

"I'm just going to worry about the guys that are going to the game playing and go from there", Bowles said. He sat the first quarter against the Giants in 2015 and again against Miami last season when he also missed a walkthrough practice.

Wilkerson was benched during the first quarter of New York's Week 13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News later reported that a team source said, "He's gone", with regard to Wilkerson's Jets future.

Initially, Bowles didn't say whether Wilkerson would play in the team's final two games, against the Chargers and Patriots, but later he said the benching was just for the Saints game.

Bowles said he addressed the decision with his team Friday, but wouldn't discuss what was said. Wilkerson clearly wants out of NY and the Jets will likely grant his wish by cutting him this offseason. "It's about the team, and we got a big challenge in front of us Sunday, and that's all we're going to be focused on".

A former Pro Bowl selection (2015), Wilkerson has been maligned by the media and fans for his lackluster performance since signing a five-year, $86 million contract before the 2016 season.

I am A Superstar 2017 victor revealed
It was Toff who won I'm A Celebrity 2017 last night , beating Jamie Lomas into second place. Moffatt said: "I hope this crown brings you as much happiness as it brought me".

He broke his right leg at the end of that year, and it affected his play last season.

Wilkerson, the highest paid player on the team, has been disciplined several times in his career with the Jets for various offenses.

Now the Jets are without Wilkerson in The Big Easy and will nearly certainly part ways with him in the coming months. While there would be $9 million in dead money, the Jets would save $11 million in cap space by releasing him. Wilkerson wasn't seen at practice or in the locker room on Friday.

"I made my decision", he said.

NOTES: RB Matt Forte (knee) and RG Brian Winters (abdomen/ankle) were listed as questionable for the game. NY has a roster exemption until 4 p.m. Monday, when they have to make another move to activate him or release him.
