Dianne Feinstein Releases Dossier Testimony

Glenn Simpson the co-founder of Fusion GPS, the firm which commissioned the dossier written by Christopher Steele, was giving evidence to a congressional committee during a closed-door interview past year. In his testimony, he suggested that Mr Steele had claimed the existence of a secret Federal Bureau of Investigation source inside the Trump camp. Steele was working for Fusion GPS when he compiled a "dossier" of allegations of financial and personal links between Trump, his advisers and Russian Federation. "The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice".

"Essentially what he told me was they had other intelligence about this matter from an internal Trump campaign source", Simpson said.

"My understanding was that they believed Chris at this point - that they believed Chris might be credible because they had other intelligence that indicated the same thing and one of those pieces of intelligence was a human source from inside the Trump Organisation", Mr Simpson said.

"He thought from his perspective there was an issue - a security issue about whether a presidential candidate was being blackmailed", Simpson said.

"It's a voluntary interview, and in addition to that he wants to be very careful to protect his sources", Levy said.

A source close to Fusion GPS, however, told NBC that the Trump-team source did not exist.

Simpson also said Steele severed his contacts with the FBI before the election following disclosures that the bureau's inquiry had found no connection between Trump campaign and Russian Federation and concerns that it was being "manipulated for political ends by the Trump people".

The emergence of the dossier - containing a series of lurid claims that the Russians had gathered compromising material on the president prior to his election campaign - caused outrage in the Trump camp. The diplomat then relayed this information to American officials, sparking the FBI investigation into the Trump campaign.

Mr. Simpson has also spoken with investigators from the House and Senate intelligence committees, which have their own investigations into Russia's election interference.

Comey, FBI, Mueller and Clinton probes tower over Trump Russia?-Trump Russia is a hoax, but not Comey, FBI, Mueller and Clinton-huh?

"I understand Chris severed his relationship with the FBI out of concern that he didn't know what was happening inside the FBI and there was a concern that the FBI was being manipulated for political ends by the Trump people", Mr Simpson said.

Feinstein's decision to release the transcript came after an op-ed published by Simpson and fellow Fusion GPS co-founder Peter Fritsch, in which they called for the transcripts to be made public and accused Republicans of concealing their testimony.

Feinstein said Democrats supported releasing the transcript, CNBC reports.

Feinstein said she released the transcript to set the record straight.
