FCC Chairman Ajit Pai cancels CES appearance after reportedly receiving death threats

Despite all the protestations from ISPs past year that they accepted net neutrality itself, it was the "1930s regulation" they couldn't stomach, Pai's combative move and his stated reasons for it, have shown this up for the lie it always was.

Citing Hill sources, DigitalMusicNews was reporting that Pai's canceled appearance was prompted by multiple death threats tied to the show.

Rolling back the net neutrality regulations is one of the most controversial policy changes under the Trump administration.

So yeah, there's not much meat there, but it stands to reason that Pai thought it best to avoid a real and potentially heated discussion on the matter with the public.

Pai was scheduled to sit down Tuesday with the head of the Federal Trade Commission, fellow Republican Maureen Ohlhausen, as part of a conversation moderated by Consumer Technology Association President Gary Shapiro.

However, two unnamed agency sources told Recode that Pai canceled his appearance after receiving death threats.

EPL: Manchester City's winning run ends, De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus injured
I admire Roy, at 70, to have the energy to put in front of the players, to have the adrenalin to know what's going to happen. It was also City's first time of playing a Premier League game without scoring a goal since last April.

"He and his family have been subject to vicious and direct attacks and threats and any decision he makes regarding his own travel is fine with me", Shapiro told Digital Trends.

This would have been Pai's first public appearance at CES as the Chairman of the FCC. Now that his plan has passed, it appears that Pai has simply made a decision to avoid his critics altogether.

Under the new directives, the FTC will be in charge of overseeing ISPs, as they were before net neutrality was established.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility, though, that the cancellation may have been due in part to the FCC's decision to kill net neutrality past year and the subsequent outrage it caused - helped in no small part by Pai's decision to be a condescending pillock to his detractors ahead of the vote.

Last month's FCC meeting that included a vote on net neutrality was interrupted by a bomb threat prompting security officials to briefly clear the room.

The FCC did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment.
