Golden Globes 2018: Stars Will Take Activists to the Red Carpet

While award show red carpets used to be filled with answers to the question, "Who are you wearing?" this year, actresses largely used their time at the microphone to advance their causes. News' Ryan Seacrest, Meryl Streep said that the power of the #MeToo movement is that "people have become aware now of how power imbalance leads to abuse in our own industry" as well as among women in other industries, including working-class women employed as domestic workers.

Streep, nominated for her portrayal of Katharine Graham in The Post, is bringing Ai-jen Poo, director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and organizer of immigrant worker women. "We're saying women in Hollywood have an opportunity to amplify the issue and shine a light on things".

Meanwhile, singer Kelly Clarkson, who wore an off-the-shoulder black dress with golden sleeves, said Sunday night that she hopes this statement extends past the red carpet.
