The Nintendo Switch was the hottest gadget of 2017 and the only unambiguously successful new product of the year.

Well, if there were still any more doubters out there unsure about the Nintendo Switch's fantastic first year, a year in which its maker won T3's prestigious Brand of the Year award, there won't be now, as The Big N has just revealed that its latest video game console is now the fastest selling in USA history. It has been nearly 10 months since its launch and the sales of the console are still pretty good.

The Japanese gaming giant on Thursday revealed it has sold more than 4.8 million Switch consoles in the United States since launching on March 3, 2017.

At the beginning of 2017, Nintendo was in a precarious position.

The company's hottest product of 2016 was a $60 console loaded with 30-year-old NES games.

In the U.S., over 60% of Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey (which we called "one of Mario's finest adventures"), while more than 55% own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Furi will arrive on Nintendo's system entirely feature complete - and to make the sale even sweeter, players will be happy to know that the Switch edition includes the boss roster-expanding "One More Fight" DLC, the option to speedrun its ultra-challenging Furier difficulty mode (never before available on console), and all improvements and updates previously added to the game. However, a reported delay in the manufacture of high-capacity Switch cartridges could restrict the flow of new games in 2018.
