Roy Moore accuser sues failed US Senate candidate for defamation

Corfman's lawsuit does not seek financial compensation beyond her own legal costs, but instead asks for "a declaratory judgment of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban on him or his campaign publicly attacking her again", the Post reports. The suit says Moore and his campaign defamed her and made false statements as they denied the accusations in the midst of the U.S. Senate race in Alabama.

Corfman said Moore abused her, then "called me a liar and immoral when I publicly disclosed his misconduct".

The lawsuit then goes on to list more than half-a-dozen more instances of Moore denying the allegations and claiming Corfman's claims were politically motivated.

Four women, including Corfman, told the Washington Post on the record in November about their alleged interactions with Moore. "By this lawsuit, I seek to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old - hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable".

The Moore campaign said in a statement that "we look forward to transparently discussing these matters in a court of law".

Corfman and her mother have said that Moore first approached her as she waited outside a custody hearing at the Etowah County courthouse. She says he took her out, gave her alcohol, partially undressed her and himself, touched her intimately and made her touch him.

Ms. Corfman immediately told friends, including Betsy Davis, about Mr. Moore's conduct that night. But the accusations by Corfman and other women, along with Moore's extremist record, help derail his Senate ambitions.

"All these statements by Mr. Moore are defamatory", the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit also cites comments from Moore campaign surrogates - including campaign chairman Bill Armistead and campaign manager Rich Hobson, now running for Congress - that suggested Corfman was lying, including a comment from Moore spokeswoman Janet Porter that Corfman's appearance on the Today show was "an Academy Award performance". Mr. Moore knew or should have known that Ms. Corfman's account is truthful because he was the perpetrator in the events she described.
