The incident was shown live on global television and was later replayed on slow motion screens in the arena.

French ice dancer Gabriella Papadakis suffered what she calls her "worst nightmare", a wardrobe malfunction, on Monday while performing at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The offending outfit was a fringed, sequined green costume that appeared to come unhooked under the hand of Papadakis' partner, Guillaume Cizeron, partway through their short program performance.

It's the second time in just over a week that a costume malfunction has been aired live on TV after South Korea's Yura Min suffered a similar setback on February 11.

According to PEOPLE, when one reporter asked them to comment on something other than the malfunction, Papadakis said, "Thank you for not talking about the dress anymore", seemingly grateful. "So that is what we did, and I think we can be proud of ourselves because we were able to do a great performance, despite what happened".

For his part, Cizeron stated that it was disappointing to lose points because of a wardrobe issue, and that it was not something that they could have really prepared for during training.

France's Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron rebounded from their tough routine to get onto the Winter Olympics podium.

Hopefully they'll avoid having another accident for the free dance on Tuesday and luckily the malfunction didn't set them back too far.

Papadakis didn't stop for even a second, finishing up second in her category, which is more than a little impressive considering how awkward she must have felt.

The two continued through the last 10 seconds of their performance, which culminated in a dramatic dip with Papadakis leaning back in Cizeron's arms.

Her halter-top, complete with tassels and spangles, edged sideways to offer an un-choreographed flash of her left breast.

The video also has been re-edited for all television encores and online replays. It was kind of, you know, my worst nightmare happening at the Olympics. 'I told myself, "I don't have a choice".

Had they stopped skating to facilitate a costume fix, they would have faced a five-point deduction. The French skater, however, kept a courageous face on and finished her routine, using one hand to avoid her dress from slipping down again.
