Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has left the hospital after routine checks in the United States and is fine, a senior Palestinian official told Reuters on Thursday.

Sponsored by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, Dahlan, who was expelled from Abbas' Fatah movement in 2014, is considered Abbas' main political rival.

Unless President Trump adopts a new approach-one that integrates the Arab states as active participants in support of a deal, not as bystanders to another round of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations-there is scant reason to believe the new US president will have any greater success in brokering a peace deal between these two Middle Eastern leaders than did the previous administration.

During a rare UN Security Council address, Abbas instead called for an global conference to be held by mid-2018 to kick-start the stalled peace process with Israel and create a "multilateral mechanism" to oversee it.

Fatah and Hamas have engaged in a faltering reconciliation process since the latter wrested the Gaza Strip from pro-Fatah forces in 2007.

Speaking at the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday for the first time since 2009, the 82-year-old delivered a speech that included the same previous rhetoric of rejecting violence and accepting negotiations with Israel as the only way forward. "Israel has shut the door on the two-state solution on the basis of the 1967 borders", he added. "Once again he is running away", Danon said.

Netanyahu in his own statement said Abbas "offered nothing new".

France's Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron rebounded from their tough routine to get onto the Winter Olympics podium. Her halter-top, complete with tassels and spangles, edged sideways to offer an un-choreographed flash of her left breast.

Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon said Abbas' words and actions made it clear he was "no longer part of the solution". "You are the problem". But we will not chase after you.

Haley disagreed, saying the Trump administration was offering "an outstretched hand" to the Palestinian people and their leaders.

Haley also rebuked the Palestinians' criticism of Trump's decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, with Abbas calling the move "unlawful" during his remarks.

Scheduled to speak after Abbas was Haley - but Abbas left the room before she could begin her speech.

"The Palestinian leadership has a choice to make between two different paths".

Equatorial Guinea's U.N. Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba called the fact that they came to the council "very, very important" and "a good sign".

Haley warned Abbas of a future based on his continued hatred and attacks against the U.S.
