Microsoft to make Windows S a 'mode' of Windows 10

Although it was initally announced as a version dedicated to those clients in the educational domain, there have been recent reports that Microsoft might instead add an "S Mode" to Windows 10 Home, Enterprise, and Pro.

Microsoft today released a new Cumulative Update for Windows 10 devices running Creators Update aka version 1703.

The company originally created Windows 10 S for the education market.

This news comes straight from Microsoft VP Joe Belfiore, who tweeted it out last last night, stating, "Next year 10S will be a "mode" of existing versions, not a distinct version". Now the S mode option will be available in Windows 10 Home and Enterprise editions, too.

Trump's ex-campaign chief Manafort to face two trials this year
Prosecutors in Washington have alleged that Manafort laundered more than $30 million and duped banks into lending money. Democrats frustrated saying Lewandowski refused to answer about questions about that Trump tower meeting with Russians.

Broadcom's buyout of Qualcomm is likely to see even more delays
We are now in the final stages of redomiciling to the United States, and that process will be complete no later than May 6, 2018. Broadcom pared that back to $117 billion last month after Qualcomm raised its own price for chip maker NXP to $44 billion.

Oculus Rift headsets hit with 'runtime service' error
Reports of failing Oculus Rift headsets are everywhere this morning, from Twitter to Reddit to the Oculus forums . They are getting a notification stating "Cant Reach Oculus Runtime Service" due to their certificate expiring.

The good news is that S mode won't be forever: Belfiore wrote that "If a customer does want to switch out of S mode, they will be able to do so at no charge, regardless of edition". It was released on July 29,2015.It is the first version of Windows that receives ongoing feature updates.

"By offering multiple experiences to our Insiders, we're able to hear multiple points of view, along with preferences on the best set up experience that showcases privacy set up choices", Marisa Rogers, privacy officer for Microsoft's Windows & Devices Group, wrote yesterday in a blog post. Despite introduction on the expensive Surface Laptop shown above, Windows 10 S has primarily been found on low-priced machines for the education sector.

However, PCWorld senior editor Mark Hachman noted in a tweet yesterday that Futuresource's report did not specifically mention Windows 10 S. When it released Windows 10 S previous year, Microsoft said it had developed the OS based on feedback from students, teachers, and school administrators around the world.

"We use Windows 10's as an option for schools or companies who need a version for simple tasks, but with guaranteed performance". It can't be undone, and presumably that could be true for other Windows 10 editions.
