Stormy Daniels offers to return 'hush agreement' money to speak

Porn star Stormy Daniels is offering to return her "hush money".

The offer came as Mr Trump's long-time personal lawyer fought to block a potentially explosive new TV interview with Stephanie Clifford, 38, who uses the stage name Stormy Daniels.

On Monday, Avenatti sent a letter on Clifford's behalf to Cohen's law firm in NY, offering to return the $130,000 on March 16 "to resolve all pending disputes, including the lawsuit and arbitration", according to the letter shared by multiple news outlets.

"She wants the people to decide who is shooting straight with them and who is being less than forthcoming". The letter says the offer will be withdrawn if it is not accepted by noon on Tuesday.

Cohen and Rosen did not immediately respond Monday to requests for comment.

In exchange, the actress, Stephanie Clifford, seeks an end to her deal to keep quiet about what she says was an affair with Trump that started in 2006 and lasted for several months.

The lawsuit claimed the "hush agreement" that was signed days before the 2016 presidential election is legally invalid because it was only signed by Clifford and Mr Cohen and not by Mr Trump.

Then on Wednesday night the New York Times obtained a copy of a temporary restraining order issued by a private arbitrator in Los Angeles on 27 February precluding one Peggy Peterson from disclosing "confidential information" as defined in an earlier secret agreement.

Texas notaries are required to sign and date agreements, as well as provide a certificate verifying those who sign documents.

"We've addressed this extensively, and I don't have anything else to add", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said last week.

Naturally, the White House has no comment on the letter or matters related to Daniels. Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen has admitted facilitating a $130,000 payment to Daniels but denied that the actress had sex with him.

Avenatti said last week that Daniels "believes it's important that the public learn the truth about what happened".

"This is a non-starter", said Jameel Jaffer, director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

Clifford alleged in the lawsuit that Trump was aware of the negotiations.

Cohen did not explain why he made the payment or say whether Trump was aware of it.

"Hush money may be commonplace in some businesses, but when it is spent to influence a federal election it must be disclosed - without exception".
