Floyd Mayweather Rumors: Would Famed Boxer Really Face Conor McGregor In UFC?

He came out of retirement in 2009 to continue boxing, and again in 2017 to box UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Mayweather came out of retirement to face McGregor in what many thought would be the greatest fight in combat sports history.

"If I do come back, it has to be in the octagon".

The last time McGregor was seen in action in any capacity was his August super-fight with Mayweather and while the pair showed their respect to each other when their ten round bout was finished, tensions have been flaring between both men once more.

But Floyd Mayweather would still be keen on switching codes. "The world loved what we did, but outside the ring, you've got to carry yourself like a gentleman". "If I do come back, Showtime and CBS have to be involved".

UFC commissioner Dana White has expressed confidence that Mayweather, aware of the financial implications, would make the move to UFC.

However, McGregor is facing various legal charges for the incident involving the fighters' bus at the Barclays Center ahead of UFC 223. He was released from jail Friday on $50,000 bail and received permission to travel back to Ireland.

Should he eventually decide to enter the Octagon, whether it's against McGregor or someone else, Mayweather said he wants to fight at 145 pounds.

Boxing appears to be dead and over for Mayweather as an active fighter.

One thing Mayweather said was certain was that he is done boxing.

So will Mayweather actually set foot in the Octagon at some point?

"Abslutely", Mayweather answered when asked if he wanted to fight in the UFC before walking that back a little: "Only if the money is right".

Obviously, McGregor seems the most likely opponent, but with his most recent run-in with the law, it isn't clear if he will return to the UFC - or if he will be welcomed back.
