"Prime Minister Lofven had participated in our "Make in India" programme in 2016 along with a big business delegation", PM Modi said while delivering the joint statement with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven following bilateral talks in Stockholm this afternoon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on Tuesday landed in Stockholm, the national capital of the European country Sweden.

The leaders noted that the unique strengths of India and the Nordic countries offer vast opportunities for trade and investment diversification and mutually beneficial collaboration, the statement said.

"In the area of defence, Sweden has been a partner of India for a very long time and I am sure that in the future as well, we will find more opportunities for cooperation, in particular in the area of defence production", Modi told reporters.

Modi said innovation, investment, start-ups, manufacturing etc. are the key aspects of cooperation between India and Sweden.

The Sikh Federation has written to Theresa May urging her to question PM Narendra Modi on issues of "extreme Hindutva agenda", "growth of Hindu radicalisation across the globe" and "treatment meted out to religious minorities and Dalits in India" during their meeting on 18 April.

After lunch with Lofven on Tuesday, Modi will meet with the five Nordic prime ministers for the first India-Nordic Summit.

"The prime minister has a duty to safeguard and fight for all of the people of India, not just those who are allied with him politically". Lofven said India and Sweden have agreed to work on a security agreement. Our partnership is based on democratic values and commitment to an open, inclusive and rule-based global order.

Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Löfven for Sweden's support to India's candidature for non-permanent membership of United Nations Security Council (2021-22) and for Sweden's support to India's permanent membership of a reformed and expanded United Nations Security Council. He will also have a brief stopover in Berlin, Germany, on April 20 while on his way back home.
