Jackson Leads Group of Four Selected in NFL Draft

For the second night in a row, unconfirmed reports about former LSU & Catholic High running back did their damage to Derrius Guice's NFL Draft stock. However, two more LSU players quickly followed, with Guice going 59th and wide receiver D.J. Chark going 61st (Jacksonville Jaguars).

- Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) April 27, 2018Todd McShay says Guice is falling because he's been late to meetings during pre-draft process.

Guice is a first-round talent who slid to the second-round due to off-field concerns. At this point, no one really knows that to make of it.

Guice's selection ultimately could be another draft-day steal for the franchise, which was gifted Jonathan Allen in last year's draft after the rookie defensive end surprisingly slipped to the mid-teens. Insider Ian Rapoport added there were incidents in college that teams found out about that were not previously reported.

You could knock passes going astray but in all fairness you can't really blame me for that one, can you? I don't dwell on it. We found it very hard to break them down as obviously their negative tactic of dropping ten players in their own half.

"I'm just thankful this whole process is over and I'm with an organization that believes in me and trusted in me, and I'm just ready to get to work", Guice said Friday. If true, it's costing him a lot of money. "So we'll wait and see and talk to Derrius, but he's assured us there was no altercation there at all". "It's all hitting them and me off guard and out of nowhere and we just don't know where it's coming from our how it happened".

This is the highest pick the Redskins have used on a running back since Ledell Betts in 2002.

Among other highlights of Round 2 was Texas offensive lineman Connor Williams, who many thought would go in Round 1, staying in-state as the Dallas Cowboys took him 50th overall.

Last season, Guice earned second-team All-SEC honors from the league's coaches and media after rushing for 1,251 yards with 11 touchdowns on 237 carries. He was the seventh running back taken in this draft.
