Apple pays female employees up to 26% less than men in some parts of its United Kingdom and European operations, according to the company's gender pay gap report.

UEL chair of governors, Geoff Thompson MBE said: "We are very encouraged by the results of our equal pay audit, which shows that the gender pay gap at the University of East London has reduced and is heading in the right direction".

But the company still had some important differences in how men and women are rewarded.

Earlier today, Music Business Week revealed that the average gender pay gap across the three major labels in the UK - Universal Music UK, Sony Music UK, Warner Music UK - was over 30%.

Groundscare equipment manufacturer Ransomes Jacobsen in Ipswich had a median gap of -7%, meaning women's average pay was higher than men's. In Amazon Online UK, for example, the hourly median and mean rate is 17.4 per cent lower for women.

She added that it was an "urgent priority" to get more women progressing through the company.

Over half (51 per cent) of women who use a credit card are likely to switch their credit card provider, compared to 38 per cent of men. Women with 13 to 14 years of experience ask for 94 cents for every dollar and receive just 92 cents.

KFC, Matalan, Starbucks, Costa, McDonald's and Primark, British Museum and the armed forces have no gender pay gap.

Smaller pay gaps in East Anglia have proved not to be sector-specific.

"We are also doing a lot of work to improve our flexible working culture across the university for all staff, recognising the link between the gender pay gap and the imbalance in caring and parenting responsibilities".

Many of the UK's largest print companies have revealed their gender pay cap data as the government's deadline looms.

The main opposition Labour party, which put out its figures in February, said it pays men slightly higher on average.

"We are committed to increasing the representation of women at all levels".
