Uber has announced a new service similar to Airbnb, but for vehicles. This news comes on the heels of Uber's acquisition of the bike-share company Jump.

The company said its app will have a dedicated "safety center" feature that will include information on driver screening processes, insurance protections and community guidelines.

Chief Executive Officer of Uber Mr. Dara Khosrowshahi regarded the 180 days of change program as the initiative to correct the past errors. "Uber paved the way for a new paradigm in urban mobility, and we're tremendously excited to power seamless connectivity between Uber's options and public transit, reducing the number of cars on the road and enabling more on-demand transportation".

While this much is going for Uber, Khosrowshahi said at an event sponsored by Goldman Sachs: "I want to run the bus systems for a city".

On Monday, Uber announced its purchase of Jump Bikes, a dockless e-bike service that operates in the District and San Francisco. This new service opens even more doors for your transportation needs; literally.

"We are starting a strategy where we are going to double down on Uber becoming more than just a ridesharing company".

Uber Technologies said on Thursday it unveiled new safety features including an emergency button that will connect United States riders directly to 911. It's all part of Khosrowshahi's effort to reform Uber's rule-skirting reputation and address valid criticisms about the company's lax approach to safety. "We have to solve the issue of auto ownership", Khosrowshahi said.

Uber Rent, if goes well in San Francisco, is expected to be brought in other cities of Getaround's operation.

"This represents the beginning of a sustained investment on behalf of Uber into making mass transit and public transit real first-class services", Khanna said. The two companies have been working in the city for about a year and now the citizens can rent a vehicle for a few hours or the whole day via Uber's app. It also works with Masabi to let users make payments and receive mobile tickets.

Getaround now operates in a handful of large cities, including Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston and Portland.
