Amazon to Expand Boston Technology Hub With 2000 New Jobs

Retail giant Amazon plans to create 3,000 new jobs in Vancouver as part of a complex that will be built in a former downtown Canada Post plant, a landmark building in a city that is pushing to be a high-tech hub. The positions will include cloud computing and speech science, according to CNBC. "Amazon's future here in Vancouver is very bright".

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who attended the announcement, said Canadians are excited to see Amazon expand its presence across the country.

Amazon's new office in Boston's Seaport District will create 2,000 tech jobs in the city. "Environmental strategies will be employed at all stages of construction and operation, making the Post a benchmark for responsible and financially prudent development", said Remco Daal, president, Canadian Real Estate, QuadReal. With state-of-the-art amenities and an easily accessible location for its employees, the new Development Centre will sit above a city landmark.

The new facility is slated to open in 2021 and will house teams focused on Alexa, Amazon Web Services and Audible.

Red Dead Redemption 2 new trailer comes later this week

3D Touch to Be Dropped From New iPhones
Even though the iPhone X starts at $999 and the iPhone 8 starts at $699, the iPhone X only costs around $115 more to produce. That made it hard to price the product much below $1,395, without slicing Apple's legendary profitability.

Amazon now has 1,000 researchers and engineers in Vancouver. Boston is also a finalist in the running to host the company's second headquarters.

Since 2011, Amazon has created more than 3,500 jobs in MA. Real estate analysts say it's unlikely that any company - even one as unconventional as Amazon - would put thousands of new employees in one city neighborhood even as they considered a huge corporate campus elsewhere in town, suggesting this expansion is either the start of a Seaport headquarters or a consolation prize.

"I want to highlight Amazon's commitment to recruiting top talent from our universities and give students the opportunity to have a direct impact on the evolution of their technologies at an early stage of their career", Trudeau said, speaking at a press conference.
