'Avengers: Infinity War' Is the Fastest Movie Ever to $1 Billion

The film cruised past the cumulative total of numerous wildly successful predecessors in the Marvel cinematic universe, including "Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". The Walt Disney Co. said Saturday that the Marvel superhero saga had earned just under $975 million in global box office through Friday. Whether it has what it takes to pass Black Panther near $700 million domestic haul remains to be seen. Records are being set around the world, including for the biggest opening day ever in Russian Federation.

The movie won the domestic weekend box office for a second-straight weekend and now has a domestic total of $450.8 million.

MGM and Lionsgate's Pantelion Films' gender-swapped remake of Garry Marshall's 1987 comedy, "Overboard" scored the highest-grossing opening weekend for Pantelion Films with a better-than-expected $14.8 million from 1,623 theaters. They gave Overboard an "A-" on CinemaScore.
