Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales dedicated the embassy just two days after a high-powered American delegation marked the transfer of the U.S. Embassy.

Guatemala is now the second country to move its Israeli embassy back to Jerusalem.

Following in US' footsteps, Guatemala opens its embassy in Jerusalem, despite worldwide condemnation.

Jimmy Morales, the Guatemalan President, arrived in Tel Aviv on Tuesday ahead of today's ceremony to a rapturous welcome; Jerusalem's old city walls were even illuminated with the Guatemalan flag and a message thanking Morales for his support.

"You were always among the first", he said at the ceremony.

Guatemala, the second country to recognise Israel as a state in 1948, has had a long history of military cooperation with Israel.

Israel's passage in June 1980 of a law proclaiming Jerusalem its "indivisible and eternal capital" led to a U.N. Security Council resolution calling on Guatemala and several other countries to move their embassies to Tel Aviv.
