Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi speaking in the National Assembly yesterday accused the NAB of bias against Sharif and targeting him on the basis of a report which had already been rejected.

Sharif said that NAB had "lost all its credibility" following "baseless allegations" and claimed "conspiracies were being hatched to forge new cases against me and sentence me in them".

He regretted that the political parties failed to make the NAB such an institution which fulfilled the requirements of justice and play its due role against corruption.

The truth should be brought out before the people, he said.

"NAB's vindictive approach is weakening democracy", claimed Nawaz. He pointed out that the NAB claims were shot down by the Washington-based multilateral agency on the same day as its local office denied that allegations were levelled against the PML-N leader in its remittance report. "He just asked for verification of the report", the PPP leader said regarding the former premier's demand that the NAB chairman apologises and resigns within 24 hours if he fails to provide evidence against him.

According to another report in the same newspaper, the Supreme Court has ordered the accountability court hearing the corruption references against the Sharif family to conclude its proceedings by June 9.

Dastgir demanded a probe against NAB's internal workings and processes of determining investigations.

Commenting on her party's frequently-used term against their detractors in disguise, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb remarked that "aliens" are those who sent 13 prime ministers and presidents packing throughout Pakistan's 70-year history.

Sharif has dismissed the corruption charges as politically motivated.

During the press conference NAB Chief said that he will probe into corruption even if someone calls it crime. "These media reports were incorrect". If convicted, Sharif could face jail time.

"The report does not include any mention of money laundering nor does it name any individuals", said the World Bank, which was issued after media reports cited its annual report for allegations that Sharif laundered $4.9 billion from Pakistan to India.
