Israel stated it struck "almost all" of the Iranian infrastructure websites in Syria on Thursday, in direct response to a barrage of Iranian rocket fireplace focusing on Israeli army positions within the Golan Heights. There were no casualties.

It's unusual for Israel to confirm military operations in Syria. The senior military official added that the Israeli strikes successfully set back the Iranian forces "by many months".

The heightened tension comes in the wake of the announcement by President Donald Trump that the United States would pull out of the worldwide deal with Iran. The United Nations considers it Israeli-occupied Syrian territory.

Trump's abandonment of the Iranian deal is only the latest in a long line of reckless actions by United States imperialism that have emboldened the unstable Zionist regime to provoke a military conflagration across the Middle East.

All five countries - France, Germany, the UK, China and Russian Federation - have said they will stick to the agreement. Further waves of missiles followed.

"Air defences confronted a huge number of Israeli rockets and some of them achieved their target and destroyed one of the radar websites", Syrian state news agency SANA reported, mentioning a army resource.

Syrian state media reported Israeli missile attacks targeting Baath City in Quneitra, near the border.

Sana reported that two missiles were shot down in the Kiswah area and that two civilians were killed in an explosion.

Among the targets were intelligence sites, military bases and weapons depots in the Syrian Golan Heights and near Damascus.

The Israeli armed forces spokesman mentioned the Iranian attack with approximately 20 projectiles or rockets had been transported from the Quds drive, an external arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Tensions between Israel and Iran are high over Iran's efforts to expand its military presence in Syria, where the Iranians are a key ally of President Bashar Assad.

Israel's prime minister said he fully supported Mr Trump's decision, asserting that the deal had "dramatically increased" Iranian "aggression" across the Middle East.

"In previous meetings, given statements that were putatively attributed to - or were made by - the Russian side, it was meant to have limited our freedom of action or harm other interests and that didn't happen, and I have no basis to think that this time will be different", he told reporters in a phone briefing. Amid the reports of an immanent Iranian attack, the military revealed that it had deployed additional batteries for Israel's Iron Dome missile defence shield in the north, while the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv prohibited USA government employees from traveling to the Golan Heights without prior authorization.

Iran has expanded its influence far beyond its borders in recent years, sponsoring an army of tens of thousands of Shiite militiamen spread across Iraq and Syria, all the way to Lebanon.
