The pastor of First Baptist Dallas has been a vocal supporter of President Trump. There may be no Christian pastor more enthusiastic in his support for Donald Trump.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who now is running for the Senate in Utah, said in a tweet Sunday evening that "Robert Jeffress says 'you can't be saved by being a Jew, ' and 'Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.' He's said the same about Islam".

"Islam is a false religion", Smith said, quoting Jeffress.

"As Christians, we believe the Lord gave the land of Israel to Abraham and his offspring in an everlasting covenant, and this includes Jerusalem", Laurie said, citing Psalm 89:28-37 in the Old Testament.

Jeffress went on to praise the leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and Trump.

For many evangelical Christians, the issues of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and relocating the USA embassy to that city have been top priority for years.

A 2008 recording from Hagee caught him proclaiming that Adolf Hitler was fulfilling God's plan to encourage Jews to return to Israel. "No man comes to the Father but by me.' Now people can disagree with Jesus" words.

Some might remember Jeffress for his frequent condemnations of Mormonism as a "cult" during the 2012 presidential campaign and his urging of Christians not to vote for Mitt Romney, a Mormon, during the Republican primary. The message was clear but Hagee said his position was misrepresented and "the ugliest of lies".

Jefress told Fox News Radio on Friday that he would be delivering the opening prayer at the dedication. "This is another example of promise made, promise kept".
